Alting: Local student welcomed to Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 20, 2024) – West Lafayette resident and West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School student Wynne Roberts, who is pictured with State Sen. Liz Brown (R- Fort Wayne) was welcomed at the Statehouse to serve as a Senate page in January, said State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette)

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the Senate floor and interacting with their state senator.

"It's very important for our youth to have an understanding of how their local and state government operate," Alting said. "The Senate Page Program gives Hoosier students a chance to learn about their legislature firsthand instead of in a book or classroom."

Students in grades six through 12 participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. Groups serve on Wednesdays.
