STATEHOUSE (Feb. 27, 2024) – A bill sponsored by State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) that would spur economic development in Delphi passed the Senate 40 to 8 today.
House Bill 1197 would allow the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission to issue up to two new three-way alcohol permits in Delphi.
"As chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Policy, which serves as the gatekeeper for alcohol laws in Indiana, I reviewed the available licenses in Carroll County and learned Delphi was out of licenses," Alting said. "Giving Delphi two more alcohol licenses will allow the city to continue to grow and attract more businesses to the city."
HB 1197 also creates new avenues for the sale of alcoholic beverages at parks and public recreation areas.
"This bill is just one more tool that can be used by Delphi to help the city, and Caroll County, recruit new restaurants to the area," Alting said. "I am pleased to see the bill pass the Senate with such bipartisan support."
The Senate amended HB 1197 and the bill will now return to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
