Alting: Benton Central student awarded Senator Ron Alting Scholarship

STATEHOUSE (Dec. 4, 2023)Benton Central High School senior Joe Widmer was awarded the Sen. Ron Alting Scholarship during this year's IU Health Hoops Classic Basketball tournament, said State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette).

"It is very important for young folks to achieve some form of education after high school, and after working two jobs in college, I know it can be difficult to pay for a post-secondary education," Alting said. "I created this scholarship to help students focus more on studying and worry less about how they'll pay for their education."

The scholarship can help pay for any post-secondary education activity, whether that be a college or university, vocational program or trade school.

"Joe is a great student athlete who shows a lot of potential through his hard work and sportsmanship," Alting said. "I can't wait to see what the future has in store for him."

The recipient of the scholarship is selected by coaches who participate in the Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament.
